How to make your website your number one business marketing tool

Nov 14, 2025

Your website promotes you 24/7, no employee will do that! So if your website is not converting into sales/ clients. Then something is clearly wrong. Below I have pulled together the top things you can do to help get your website working better for you. You’ll even be able to implement some of the key ones today!

1. Is your website SEO friendly?

If you don’t know what SEO means, it stands for search-engine optimisation. The easy way to digest this meaning is thinking of it as making your website “readable” by search engines. This will help your website rank higher when people search the internet. Your ideal client/ customer is more than likely looking for products or services via a search engine like Google. So it’s important that your website is picked up by them. As a small business owner you’re probably thinking how can I compete with larger companies to achieve page one of Google’s listings? But any company can rank highly if you’re using the right techniques and are prepared to put in the time and effort that is required to both get and stay there.

If you don’t have the budget to hire an SEO expert (which can be expensive). Then below are some quick wins you can do to improve your SEO yourself:

  • Keyword – using the right keywords on your website is a great way to improve the SEO on your website.Try using the AdWords Keyword Planner tool to help you. Take a keyword for your industry and then try and think about how your ideal customer/client may use it when searching the internet.
  • Blog – blogging is a good way to increase your websites SEO. Google ranks websites with current content and who regularly update it. It’s also a great way to get your keywords on your site. So make sure you’re adding them in your tags!
  • Optimise your images – when adding images to your shop and website, make sure you’re adding the name and alt tag to your images. Remember to include a keyword! This will help you appear more often in website searches.
  • Using internal and external links – ensure you’re using links to some of your other website pages. This will not only improve your SEO but also improve user experience and provide site authority.

2. Is your website Social?

The worst thing you can do is prevent a visitor from sharing content on your website that they love because you do not have any social sharing options. This acts like word of mouth, allowing your website to reach more people. Make sure your website has social sharing options.

CTAs encourage your customers to take action. Include and highlight many relevant calls to action throughout your site, this will help guide your potential/customer to do what you want them to do e.g. to make a purchase. Adding a reminder to “Buy” or “Email Us” is VERY effective.

3. Is your website engaging?

Do you have a blog that you are not consistently updating? A blog can be a primary traffic driver to your website if you’re regularly updating it with relevant, useful and informative content for your users.

But you have to be consistent…

Businesses who use blogs receive more than 50% more leads than those who don’t.

Now, you may not have time to write every week, in reality we’re all super busy as business owners. So write them whenever you get the time and stagger when you upload them. Also make sure you’re posting to your social media when you have added a new blog post to help drive more traffic to your blog and therefore your website.

  • Are you regularly reviewing your website?

You may be perfectly happy with your website, however it’s important to review it regularly to ensure that it still meets not only your needs, but also the needs of your customers/clients. A website should be continually developing, this is important because clients, visitors and search engines are attracted by active sites. Is it still relevant to your target market?

  • Are you using Google Analytics?

I personally think that Google Analytics is the best and the most popular digital analytics software. Google Analytics provides you with a set of measurements that help you understand your websites performance. As a business owner you should want to see what visitors are doing on your site, how they interact with it, and how to help them accomplish their tasks. With the information Google Analytics provides you, you will be able to increase your sales and maximise your marketing efforts.

Continuously finding ways to improve your website after it is live is paramount in increasing your sales. Try picking at least two of the above and start improving today!
