1. You own and have control
Growing your social media base is essential and can be profitable for your business. But the only problem is.
You don’t own or control it
At the drop of a hat Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest or all the other social media platforms you own could be hacked and all that time you spent growing your following could be lost. Or algorithms and the costs to promote yourself can change at a flip of a switch.
However, you do own and control your email list.
2. Email subscribers are more likely to make a purchase
If you’re selling a product or service online, then you need an email list. If someone signs up to your email list, then you know they’re interested in your brand and what you have to offer. They’re not simply ‘following you for a like or follow back’ like on social media.
Promoting yourself via email to subscribers who are interested in what you have to say and offer will get you stronger engagement than let’s say Twitter or Facebook. For this reason, it’s incredibly important to build your email list. Not only are they going to be your most engaged readers, but they’ll also be your most loyal customers. So start creating your tribe.
But I what if you’re not selling anything. Building an email list is still useful, as it will help drive traffic to your website and social media pages.
3. It’s the best way to engage with your customers/clients
Building an email list is so important because it’s the best way to build a relationship with potential customers and/or clients. It’s the best way to convert followers to buyers. It’s the simplest way to shout out about great offers and make big announcements and to simply keep in touch and keep in the mind of your target audience.
I currently use Mailchimp to send me email newsletters, but I have also heard good things about Kit (fomerly Convertkit) too.
